Hiring the right contractor is one of the most important decisions you will make for a custom home or remodeling project. Lots of companies come and go — here is what to verify before you sign a contract.
Look for Long-Term Local Experience
4C Construction has served the Omaha Metro for over 30 years. A contractor with a established local track record is more likely to be around to stand behind their work after the job is done.
Verify EPA Lead-Safe Certification
As of April 22, 2010, federal law requires remodeling contractors working in pre-1978 homes to be EPA Lead-Safe certified. If a remodeler does not know about this requirement or cannot provide certification, that is a major red flag. 4C Construction holds EPA certification (Certificate R-1-18316-3-20-00013).
Confirm Insurance Coverage
Ask the insurance company to send certificates of insurance directly to you, listing your name as the covered loss payee. 4C Construction is fully licensed, insured, and bonded.
Check for a Real Business Presence
Professional contractors have a business phone, email, and physical address — not just a cell number and a truck. Ours is (402) 616-1814, admin@4cconstruction.biz, and 7901 S 22nd Ave, Bellevue, NE 68147.
Questions to Ask Any Contractor
- Are you licensed, insured, and bonded for this type of work?
- Who will be on site day to day — the owner or a rotating crew?
- How do you handle change orders and written scope?
- Can you provide recent references in my area?
- What is your process for permits and inspections?
